The Problem with a Little Knowledge (Dec 18)

Average online poker players today know more than a few party facts about their favorite game. They often know the ins and outs of good poker strategies, the names of the most popular poker players, and the rules for a wide variety of games. Before you start thinking that all of this poker education is a good thing, I want to realize that there can be a problem with a little knowledge. The thing to remember about these decidedly average online poker players is that they have just enough knowledge to annoy the other players at the table.

These well informed average players like to share their knowledge with the table. This often takes the form of commentary on how they are playing, or more annoying, how you should be playing. While their opinions are often strategically sound and accurate, they are unasked for. They are unsolicited and downright annoying. Before you start spouting off your poker online knowledge when you play, realize that the other players probably have read the same books and websites that you have. They are just keeping their mouth closed because they know that concentration is a vital part of the game. The quiet players have made the move from average to above average.
